La Baule's main attraction is its long sandy beach (8 kilometres). The beach is lined with luxury hotels that attract rich and sophisticated visitors. La Baule is a "town in bloom" and has many parks and gardens.
The "most beautiful beach in Europe" offers extraordinary Art Nouveau and Art Deco villas. You can see the intricate details that adorn the facade of Sovereign Ker (Océanides boulevard) and the eccentric Shelter Anecavit assembled some interesting regional styles (Norman, Breton and Landes). Under the dunes lies the ancient village of Escoublac buried by sand during a storm in 1779. Escoublac from the beginning is the name of the parish, which became the name of the town in 1790. It then became Escoublac-La Baule until November 13, 1961, where it was voted by a slim majority by the City Council, La Baule-Escoublac. The decision was ratified by the decree of May 10, 1962. La Baule had long been the common name of the resort.
